This little book sure packs a punch! It is small when you first see it, but open it up, and it is just chock-full of advice pertaining to our sweet little feathered friends. Wow! I was impressed! You will feel like you have come away from this book knowing quite a bit more than you did before you dug into it! I have been into birding for quite awhile now, yet,I was surprised to learn things that I never even knew before! It is a nice addition to your "birding library"....so glad I got it! Plus....you can assist friends and neighbors, when they are confounded about a birding "issue"!

Purchased the binoculars for a son at Christmas. I believe I paid about $75. Compaired to a cheap pair of 10x40 binoculars I had purchased years ago, the view was quite good. The binoculars are sturdy and feel well made. Looking through them for an extended period of time was not hard on the eyes. I don't really have any experience with which to compare these to a more expensive set, but I was quite satisfied with the quality I had purchased for the price.

This is a lovely book, filled with very interesting information. I knew I wanted to offer food to the birds, but felt concerned about negative comments I had heard about this practice. This book resolves all of these issues for me. And it provides information about how to feed the birds without harming them: keeping the seed clean and disease free, for example. A lot of things I did not know about.

In addition, there's a lot of information that makes me appreciate birds even more. Intriguing info about mating, caring for their young, migrating, intelligence, how they sing, feathers and how they fly...

On a more mundane level, this is a lovely looking book. It's small (about 6" by 4.5")yet satisfyingly hefty (about 1" thick.) It's attractively bound, with a shiny cover and a textured, matte spine. It's a great little book in so many ways. Well done! The Bird Watching Answer Book: Everything You Need to Know to Enjoy Birds in Your Backyard and Beyond (Cornell Lab of Ornithology)

Starting with backyard birding and bird feeding, Dunne proceeds to give the basics. What to look for in binoculars and field guides, clubs and tours, birding by ear, and hints for moving beyond being a beginner. I particularly appreciated the chapter on ethics and responsibility, and including the ABA code of ethics in the appendix a good idea. Written in a light but informative manner, Dunne is not afraid to tell stories on himself, such as accidentally stepping on a Sharp-tailed Grouse, and identifying a harrier at Hawk Mountain and the lesson's learned. Each chapter includes a useful essay by a `guest', such as Birding by ear, by Dick Walton, or "A birders guide to bird tour survival". Although geared for the beginner, there is useful information and reference for all.

This prolific writer on birding delivers again, taking many of his tried and true observations on birding and compiling them into an easy and interesting format. I would recommend this strongly to any birder but certainly beginning birders will profit the most from its insights. Especially good for anyone considering an optics purchase.

For the first time in my life I started hunting last year. Everyone around me does, so I decided to give it a try. I loved it. Last year I hunted white-tail deer and squirrel and had a great time. I decided to continue hunting, but that meant buying gear, and I mean all the gear, from clothing to the gun, to accessories, everything.

Last year I used binoculars and they worked really well for me, so I started looking around, I decided that if I'm going to do this I needed to buy some good quality equipment in my price range, and these binocs meet that specific perfectly.

They are small, present a great view, great quality that comes with the Nikon name. When I upgrade later I'll stay with Nikon.

We got these binoculars for our 12-year-old twin grandchildren for Christmas. They were a big hit. I checked them out beforehand, and found them of good quality, well worth their modest price.

As an avid bird feeder, this book was a great resource answering questions that we always wondered about. Very practical and applicable to us.
